Janovic's Fall Inspiration: Bedroom Redesign
Bedroom by Jamie Gibbs and AssociatesIf you've been living in the New York area for a decent amount of time, chances are you've been in a Janovic store, either to grab a can of paint for a quick touch-up or for a more involved painting or window treatment project. Janovic's website also offers great tips for New Yorkers from interior design experts and this fall, they've got some inspirational ideas for the bedroom.
"Create a Sensuous Bedroom" features interior designer Elaine Ryan and offers a ton of ideas to decorate the one room that you spend most of your time in when you're at home (though during much of that, your eyes are closed!)
Ryan offers tips on incorporating more plush fabrics other than sheets, making sure the bed is the focal point of the room, using frothy colors, eschewing geometrics and plaids for the more appropriate floral patterns, and incorporating furniture for two.
The most interesting tip is related to how your bedroom lighting could actually downplay the cellulite on the occupant's body...yeah, that's a new one on us also...

Want to dispel cellulite, make yourself look thinner and bring a rosy glow to your cheeks? It’s as simple as a lampshade lined with pale pink or rose-colored fabric. Another trick Elaine suggests is to place a small lamp with rose-colored bulbs at the opposite end of the room from the bed. And make sure you install dimmers or rheostats so you can easily lower and manipulate the lighting level.Anyway, if you've got the urge to get a new look going for the bedroom, be sure to check out Janovic for the full article: Bedroom Ideas from Elaine Ryan

Janovic Starts a Blog

Back in 1888, when Emil Janovic began delivering paint in his horse-drawn carriage, he probably couldn't have imagined that one day, his eponymous company would grow to include 20 stores around Manhattan and LI, and a 55 thousand square foot warehouse.
He also wouldn't have been able to foresee the marketing potential of blogging, but lucky for us, the folks running Janovic get it and they added a blog to their site in April. Its only a few posts deep but the contributing bloggers they've lined up are Janovic.com Editor Pamela Bloom, Senior Color Consultant Paul Mutimear, and Dr. Toby Israel Ph.D. who is the founder of a new field called Design Psychology.
Sounds to us like there'll be a ton of interesting stuff coming from this team that we'll be sure to share. Unlike most local businesses that are owned by big, national corporations, Janovic's ownership by Berkshire Hathaway and Benjamin Moore hasn't diminished their knack for staying ahead of paint and window dressing trends here in New York and their website and articles are far from being generic, homogenized filler. The content is fresh, inspirational and often features the work and ideas of local designers working here in New York City. Let's hope they keep that up with the Janovic Design Notes Blog.
Good Luck, Guys!

Blue Iris painting by Bill Luchsinger
Over in the cityhammer.com Tips section, we spotlight 3 of the blues picked by the big paint makers as the hottest colors for 2008. While most of us can pick our own colors, sometimes it's nice to get a sense of what the interior designers New York prefer.
Janovic has a list of some professional designers and their fave's for the year. Offering their picks are three New York Interior Designers, including Amy Lau, Martha Angus and Adrienne Neff.
Neff is feeling Yarmouth Blue for Master Bedrooms, while Lau is "seeing purple everywhere."
Check out these New York Painters to get the look you want this year.
